Hammer is the best one. The lower damage over the other short blunts doesn't matter for number of "hits to kill", what matters is that it weights 1kg, so it uses less endurance per hit than the ones that weight 1.5kg. Thrusting weapon usually have no multi-hit. Slashing weapons and short blunts have 2x. Long blades and blunts have 3x. Sledgehammer has 4x. Not sure about the baseball bat can hit 4x, at least in v41. In v40, maybe it is possible. Max push seem to be 3x if they're packed close enough. #1.

Singleplayer do whatever you want, is your game, you are only cheating if you feel you are cheating. I'm the beginning of the game, where you're pretty much limited to kitchen utensils that do shit damage and break easily, then yes, the crowbar is a good weapon. It will last you for a long time, have good reach, do more damage than a frying pan, and have a good multihit number. Other weapons will do more damage and are more stamina efficient ...No multi hit or at best two hits from skill. ^That's the spirit. Knowing how to adjust your position among the zombies makes possible to fight 6~8 zombies at the same time if you are using blades, spears or axes.
