Nickel finish was fairly common on model 19s, but if it looked good shape when you bought and is now flaking I`d consider it suspect. There are a couple of quick and dirty methods to approximately date a model 41. If the model number and serial number are on the same side of the frame, the pistol was made in 1960 or before. No prefix serial numbers are 1961 - 1969. A-prefix serial numbers 1970 to about 1984.

This is a Pre-model 17 K-22 Masterpiece. For old S&W 22's listing it as a model K-22 is adequate for the model number. It should have "Made in USA" or a 4 line trade mark stamp like this one, stamped on the right side over the trigger guard. With a S&W logo on the right or left side just in front of the grips.
