The upgrades aren't just about making it last longer or recharge faster. They also allow you to do more things while using it. If you upgrade all the weapons you get from this mod, to MK3, they'll be linked to your account no matter if you remove the mod later. Came across this while trying to remedy the Optical Camo. Unfortunately, didn't fix the optical camo yet. But you keep the guns if you upgrade it.
