Jan 2, 2014 · Honda Rancher Transmission Problems. My 2008 Rancher quit shifting so I took it to my dealer last fall. It had stripped some teeth off of the shift modulator and also had some water in it. He replaced the damaged parts but can't get it to shift electrically. It will shift with the manual gear changer so everything is fine mechanically. It's not hard to do. Just remove the axle first. Remove the tires and hubs, remove the large axle nuts, unbolt and remove the rear brakes and brake panel (4 nuts), and knock the axle out the right side. Next, just unbolt the center axle tube from the diff (4 bolts). Now, unbolt the diff from the swingarm (4 nuts).
