Last time I checked, YNAB is still doing well and they have a great youtube page with lots of videos. If people aren't that keen on doing it all themselves in Excel/whatever spreadsheet software and they are willing to pay some 50-70 dollars each or whatever it is nowadays...The Budget sheet is used for budgeting similar to YNAB. Only edit the Budgeted column for each category for each month. The rest are calculated based on your expenses. The amount you can budget is based on your income for the month, the budget from last month and the spending from last month. The Expenses sheet is for planning your budget.

YNAB is more than a spreadsheet; it's a powerful methodology to go along with it and well worth the $5 a month. The only equivalent software I've encountered is Good Budget, anything else I've tried works in a way that's not conducive to the envelop method. So you first have to decide if the envelop method is what you want.
When you open that spreadsheet up, you’ll see a few tabs at the bottom. Start with the tab that lets you define your categories and accounts.
