1st test : gate builded in 1.02, but already got locked previously with a 1.01 lock that I cutted to open the gate. Server has been restarded several time since no prompt when trying to attach the lock remove wire, build gate again => no prompt remove wire, restart server, build gate => no prompt

It's dependent on how you place and not which side you're standing on when you're actually building the parts of the fence. But yes, you'd either have to place it from the inside or stand outside and rotate the fence kit before placing it.
