It's been at the top of that list for a while now but the other day I was browsing at the Army/Navy store in Whitehall and came across a Benelli. It was a black Supernova Tactical.Give the Nova 20yrs of availability to the public before making the judgement. Not nearly enough Nova's out there to make any claim about reliability long term. Lab testing for total rounds before failure had little to do with field performance. No flies on the Benelli but it doesn't deserve mention in the same sentence as an 870, at least, not ...The 500/590 is like a 4 door pickup, a versatile workhorse. Good for anything you throw at it. The benelli is more high end sports car. Something breaks you have to buy from the dealership. I rarely see anything for benelli cheap. The 590 you could make it do anything you want with the change of a barrel, and twist of a choke.A) The number of accessory barrel options you can easily get for it. B) It looks better. That said I'm actually looking to get the new Mossberg 535 ATS Turkey/Waterfowl Combo, it's lighter than the 870 or 500 if you plan to carry it around the field all day, and can handle 3 1/2 inch shells if you wanted to use them.

doctorlivingstone. I own both a SuperNova and an 870 Express. I converted the 870 to a defense gun, here's my take. The Remington kicks more, has a finish that's more prone to nicks, and to rust. The Benelli is more comfortable to aim, swing, and shoot. It's modular design is a breeze to dis-assemble and clean.

I love my Benelli NOVA. I have a Mossberg 835. Great gun. But its not a Winchester1300 for sure. I have a Winchester 120 and 1300. They are not turkey guns though. Love the way they feel and function. The only thing nice about my 835 is the camo and the 3 1/2 turkey loads. I would never get rid of the Winchester.
