I was hoping to find out the year the gun was made and if Ithaca put polychokes on the 37 or would it have been installed after being purchased.

What happens is, when I fire the shell and then pump, the hull is ejected; but both shells in the magazine are (sometimes) released.
Ithaca M 37 shotguns with a serial number higher than would easily swap out both barrels and magazine tube. Make sure you have the right spring to go with the 8 shot tube and you should be set.

For $350 you can pick up another Ithaca 37 Field with a different choke. I really like the 26" IC for grouse. Depends on what you plan to use the gun for but another option is to open it up to ~.008-.012 and call it done. The older I get the less I like choke tubes, have boxes of them around here. Way too many.
The smoothbore guns shoot pretty decently. The rifled guns are more accurate. I've shot/tested smoothbore Deerslayers, Rifled Deerslayer 2's and a Rifled "Deerslayer 1". My dad owns a BPS with the same specs as my Ithaca - 12 ga. 2 3/4 & 3", 28" vent rib with screw in choke tubes and my gun weighs less than his. Better for hunting (carrying all day walking a dove or pheasant field) and I think the Ithaca's action is smoother than the BPS.
