Car rental recommendations. Hey there, this our first trip to the island, having had to cancel our previous attempt after Irma. We're staying on Simpson Bay for 9 days in a couple of weeks and looking for a rental car. I see Hertz recommended a bit. Answer 1 of 37: What are the best car rental companies in St. Maarten? Last time we went to SXM, it was on United via Newark - cheaper than Air Canada, but required an overnight stay. The previous time it was on American Airlines - a two hop flight but cheaper than Air Canada. A quick search finds Toronto to SXM January 14 to Feb 8 for $576 return on American, two hops plus an overnight stay both directions.

Stay in SXM whenever. It's really not that big of a deal. Anguilla is overwhelmingly the better of the two locations but it's fun to explore new places and try new things. We stayed in SXM for the last days of our vacation and I don't regret it. It made the travel home MUCH easier and MUCH shorter, especially being with a 4 year old.
