So, 12 years of grime etc. mean I couldn't get out the old hose from the heater matrix - just wouldn't budge. Rather than risk damaging the matrix I decided to cut the old hose and splice it to a bit of new hose with a 19mm brass pipe connector from eBay and a couple of jubilee clips.
