Dec 13, 2015 · P0090. Circuit/System Description. High pressure fuel is regulated by the fuel rail pressure (FRP) regulator mounted on the fuel injection pump. The FRP regulator is controlled by the engine control module (ECM). The FRP regulator has a solenoid supply voltage circuit and solenoid control circuit. I tried pulling the plug just to see if I noticed anything different and I ended up with p0090 and the high fuel rail pressure code which I think was p0088. I did end up replacing one of the small rubber fuel hoses during install and used the same procedures i as would changing a fuel filter.This is also something that is not very common on these Duramax engines but it happens more often than an ECM issue. The most common problem on the Duramax is the EGR. That and head gasket issues. As far as electrical issues, this is really the only other one I know of. I had the code read at Auto Zone. They said it had to do with fuel pressure control/performance. The code #P0089 says the fuel pressure solenoid control circuit voltage is implausible. Probable causes: Open or short circuit condition. Faulty fuel pressure solenoid. EMC fault. It seems to happen every time I get fuel.

P0090 is fuel pressure regulator related, not the rail pressure sensor. You either have a sticky FPR, a bad coil in the FPR or no power to the FPR. you need 5v to the FPR for it to be controlled. Mogman.
