In the beginning when I only have about 20 men, it's just F1 + F3, not much tactics to talk about. However, when my party capacity got above 100, and now 200 in my current save, I have about 20% mounted archers, 30% ... 25% heavy cav. 15% thin line of armored fellows to stand in front of archers, including a good mix of spears and a few throwers sprinkled in. 10% personal retinue of khan’s guard to push ppl around who get too close, or bring along to raid enemy cav, or send in for a final sweep, or send them spinning as a distraction.
